An Artist’s Cookbook - Recipe #1: Artist Heal Thyself is the first in a series of explorations of the human condition and the tools that could be used to navigate this existence. Based on ancient Greek theory, personality is ruled by the humors: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic. In this work, each humor is represented by a corresponding color: red, yellow, black, green. Artist participants were asked to identify their humors, as well as select a Pantone color that closely matches their skin tone. An Artist’s Cookbook creators, Nicole B. White and Jack Bangerter, used these colors to paint the unique, self-reflective targets. Equipped with nail guns, participants addressed their humors and psyche, while physically engaging with the artwork.
